Tony has been active in the insurance industry since 1980. Starting in Britain, Tony’s first position was at General Accident Fire and Life Assurance Corporation, one of Britain’s largest insurance companies at the time. He gained experience in personal and commercial lines underwriting, claims handling, and life assurance before becoming a field representative for the company in Birmingham, England in 1984....
Tony then went on to immigrate to Canada in 1987 and joined Dale and Company in the marketing department before moving to Jardine Rolfe Limited in 1992. While there he managed a portfolio for a multinational TSX listed company. In July of 1999 Tony bought Winram Insurance Ltd. which later became Axis Insurance Managers Inc. in 2005. Under his leadership, annual premiums rose from $1,000,000 to $40,000,000 including approximately $8,000,000 going into the Lloyd's of London market via binder.
After selling Axis Insurance Managers in November of 2016, Tony became founding partner at Owl Underwriting Agency Inc. a tribunalized MGA in the Lloyd's market that has successfully grown into multiple lines of business including B Smart Insurance's innovative new insurance products.
David is a founding member of B Smart Insurance. With an extensive technology business background including his current position as Founder of Vancouver based custom software firm General Internet Inc., David has overseen projects ranging from start-ups to enterprise level deployments, with a significant focus on the Insurance industry...
Having also worked directly in the Insurance industry serving as Partner and Interim CEO of Beck Insurance, a national MGA, underwritten by Trisura Guarantee Insurance Company, David brings a wide ranging digital skillset that will help ensure that B Smart Insurance is on the leading edge of the insurtech space with a strict focus delivering on customer focused Insurance products.
Karen brings 20 years of extensive experience to B Smart as a managing broker in the Property & Casualty (P&C) sector. Having worked intimately with national brokerages and commercial clients throughout Canada, Karen possesses a deep understanding of the regulatory landscape, broker workflows, and the operational precision required to scale a national MGA efficiently.
